About PAs, CRNPs & CRNAs
Physician Assistants (PAs) are health care professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician oversight. PAs practice in many areas of health care from family practice to specialties such as orthopaedics, pediatrics, hospital medicine, and oncology. PAs will see and treat many of the same patients as the physicians who oversee their practice. More information on education requirements and scope of service for PAs can be found at the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) website, www.aapa.org.
Certified Registered Nurse Practitioners (CRNPs) are registered nurses who practice in ambulatory, acute, and long term care as primary and/or specialty care providers. CRNPs are master’s, post-master’s or doctoral level educated. While CRNPs can work as independent practitioners they work closely with other medical professionals to diagnose and treat patients and emphasize health promotion and disease prevention. More information on educational requirements and scope of service can be found at the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners website, www.aanp.org.
Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) are registered nurses who provide anesthesia in collaboration with surgeons, anesthesiologists and other qualified healthcare professionals. CRNAs have earned a master’s degree. More information on education requirements and scope of service for CRNAs can be found on the American Academy of Nurse Anesthetists website, www.aana.org.
