CCMH Hosts Informational EMS Meeting
June 21, 2010
Charles Cole Memorial Hospital hosted an informational meeting recently for EMS companies to learn about a state-wide needs assessment survey.
Nine ambulance companies from throughout CCMH’s service area attended to learn about the importance of the survey. Dr. Jill Rumberger, who is leading the research, conducted the meeting to explain the survey and its importance and answer questions. CCMH invited Dr. Rumberger to speak in an effort to aid regional EMS partners with the survey.
Dr. Rumberger, a professor at Penn State – Harrisburg, explained the survey will determine the financial viability and sustainability of rural ambulance services in Pennsylvania. As EMS companies deal with shrinking reimbursements and increased costs, the study will use its findings to make policy recommendations to key stakeholders. The data is expected to assist decision makers throughout the state for years to come. Urban and rural data will be separated and compared in the findings.
The project sponsor, the Center for Rural PA, will publish its findings in early 2011 at http://www.rural.palegislature.us
