Lock Haven University
Master of Health Science: Physician Assistant Program:
The nationally ranked, 24 month program leads to a Master of Health
Science degree and a certificate as a physician assistant. With
locations at the Lock Haven University main campus and three branch
locations (Clearfield Campus, Charles Cole Memorial Hospital in
Coudersport, and the Dixon University Center in Harrisburg) via
distance education (internet TV delivery), accompanied by onsite
faculty, the LHUP program offers students a high quality, affordable
education experience.
Students
undergo a rigorous, 99.5 semester hour curriculum that culminates in
being awarded a Master of Health Science degree and certificate of
completion of an accredited PA program that confers eligibilty to sit
for the physician assistant national certifying examination, offered by
the National Commission on Certification of the Physician Assistant.
The program incorporates the use of state-of-the-art technology and a
module-based teaching format. Extensive use of small group learning,
service learning strategies, and a variety of clinical experiences
results in greater than 90 percent first-time pass rates on the NCCPA
board examination. Students and graduates highly rate the quality of
their educational experience and their preparedness for entry level
clinical practice. While emphasizing primary care, program graduates
work in a variety of clinical settings including surgery and surgical
subspecialties, pediatrics, OB/GYN, internal medicine, and others.
Admissions are extremely competitive with over 800 applications being
received for the 60 seats available in 2010.
