Master of Health Science: Physician Assistant Program:
The nationally ranked, 24 month program leads to a Master of Health Science degree and a certificate as a physician assistant. With locations at the Lock Haven University main campus and three branch locations (Clearfield Campus, Charles Cole Memorial Hospital in Coudersport, and the Dixon University Center in Harrisburg) via distance education (internet TV delivery), accompanied by onsite faculty, the LHUP program offers students a high quality, affordable education experience.
Students undergo a rigorous, 99.5 semester hour curriculum that culminates in being awarded a Master of Health Science degree and certificate of completion of an accredited PA program that confers eligibilty to sit for the physician assistant national certifying examination, offered by the National Commission on Certification of the Physician Assistant. The program incorporates the use of state-of-the-art technology and a module-based teaching format. Extensive use of small group learning, service learning strategies, and a variety of clinical experiences results in greater than 90 percent first-time pass rates on the NCCPA board examination. Students and graduates highly rate the quality of their educational experience and their preparedness for entry level clinical practice. While emphasizing primary care, program graduates work in a variety of clinical settings including surgery and surgical subspecialties, pediatrics, OB/GYN, internal medicine, and others. Admissions are extremely competitive with over 800 applications being received for the 60 seats available in 2010.
