SPU Waiting Room - Volunteers provide assistance to the family and friends of the Operating room and Short Procedure Unit patients. This volunteer also serves as liaison between family members and the Operating Room, Recovery Room and physicians. Volunteers in the SPU waiting room keep the area clean, orderly and stocked with fresh made coffee, hot water and pastries. Cancer Center - Assist staff in greeting patients and families. Maintain refreshment area. Offer refreshments to patients and visitors as well as deliver lunch to chemotherapy patients. Volunteers also transport blood samples and chemotherapy to and from the hospital and the cancer center. General Stores - Volunteer works with the purchasing department to process and deliver incoming inventory to appropriate hospital departments. Light lifting is required to accomplish most tasks. Long Term Care - This volunteer assignment is unique in that it allows a great deal of independent activity if the volunteer so chooses. Individual attention to residents may be provided by reading, writing letters, playing games, visiting, teaching, walking, plant care, etc. Volunteers assist with serving snacks, serving meals, pouring water for residents, clearing trays and returning residents to their rooms if needed. Gift Shop - Volunteers greet and wait on customers. Volunteers run the cash register, and credit card machine, price inventory and stock shelves. Physical Therapy - Volunteers transport patients from medical/surgical floors to Physical Therapy Department for treatment. Volunteers also assist staff in cleaning equipment and preparing treatment rooms.
Greeter - Volunteers provide patient information, directions and warm greetings to our visitors. Volunteers stand ready to escort or transport patients to testing centers, scheduled surgeries, admissions or upon discharge, as well as deliver flowers and mail to patients. Volunteers sort daily incoming mail and distribute to appropriate department mailboxes. Volunteers assist the dietary department by reviewing lunch menus with patients and writing down lunch requests.
